2023 Melville Awardee – Kimberly Beazer

Kimberly Beazer is the Environmental Science & Gardening Program
Director and Lead Educator at PS 84 in Manhattan. Ms. B, as she is
known, plans and teaches the Pre-K-5th grades Environmental
Science curriculum. She has helped the school develop this program
since 1997. Under her supervision, she develops plans to plant and
care for over 100 varieties of edible and ornamental plants in the
schools’ 4,000 square foot rooftop learning garden. Kimberly also
helped the school build the capacity to integrate the garden and
related content into the daily school curriculum across all grade
levels. Her programs include parent volunteers, family afterschool
activities, and a garden harvest market as a fundraiser.
She started her career as a garden volunteer in 1997 in Westchester
County. She has become an educator and manager of ecology-based
programs for nonprofits and educational centers throughout New
York City. They include Sustainable South Bronx, The City Parks
Foundation, The New York Botanical Garden and The Bronx River
Art Center.
