2018 Melville Award Recipient – Nancy Wolf

Nancy Wolf graduated from Hollins College in Virginia and later earned a Master of Liberal Arts at Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Wolf was the executive director of the Environmental Action Coalition, which was one of the groups that started New York City’s first Earth Day celebration in 1970. After retiring from EAC, she became an environmental education consultant and co-authored the book, “Plastics: America’s Packaging Dilemma.”

Ms. Wolf had long been associated with Green Horizons which introduces environmental careers to middle school students. She has acquainted inner city youth with the joys of nature through the Urban Woodlands Project and has worked to include environmental education in standard school curricula. She established an endowed fund at Hollins to support the environmental studies program and is a recipient of the Hollins Distinguished Alumnae Award.
